About Me
Struan Thorpe from Argyll, Scotland has played Bagpipes for over 20 years. Originally taught by Arthur Gillies Struan gained success in junior solo competitions as well as pipe band competitions in Grade 2 as an early teenager. Struan completed the BA(Hons) Scottish Music (Piping) degree from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2011. During his time at university Struan had multiple successes on the solo boards winning the B grade March at Inveraray Highland Games as well as numerous prizes in the B grade Duncan Johnston Memorial Competition. Struan has been a member of the Grade 1 Scottish Power Pipe Band for 15 years placing in the top 6 on numerous occasions at the World Championships. Struan has also toured as the Bagpiper, Whistle and Flute player for the Tanahill Weavers on multiple occasions.
Upon moving to Australia Struan has had multiple solo and band successes including wining the RU Brown Gold Medal (2022) RU Brown Clasp for former winners (2024), all A Grade Light Music events at the Victorian Championships (2022), Australian and NZ Pipe Band Championships (Hawthorn Grade 2 & Scotch College Nov A+B) and A grade Piper of the year in Victoria 2023.
Teaching
Struan offers bespoke music lessons on Bagpipes, Tin Whistle and Scottish/Irish Flute as well as being available for workshops, seminars and group lessons.
Lesson Prices and Policies
The charge for a 50-minute lesson is $60 AUD.
Lessons can be purchased individually or in blocks of 6, to be paid before the commencement of the first lesson of the block.
The charge for a block of 6 lessons is $340 AUD (including a $20 discount), and must be taken within 8 weeks from the date of the first lesson.
24 hours' notice is required in order to cancel/rearrange a lesson. If 24 hours' notice is not received, the lesson charge will stand.
Lessons can take place via Zoom or in person.
